Abstract

This study investigates the factors affecting students' performance in mathematics at Government Day Secondary School Jibia, focusing on teacher quality, student interest, teaching methods, and resource availability. The research identifies a high student-teacher ratio, insufficient teaching resources, declining student interest at higher grade levels, and ineffective traditional teaching approaches as critical barriers to improved performance. The findings underscore the need for reforms, including the recruitment of qualified mathematics teachers, provision of adequate learning resources, adoption of innovative teaching methods, and increased parental involvement. Recommendations emphasize a collaborative approach involving school administrators, teachers, parents, and policymakers to enhance mathematics education. The study concludes that addressing these challenges is essential for improving students' academic outcomes and fostering STEM-related career opportunities.
