Abstract

Since the media plays a crucial role in creating awareness to the people as well as shaping out issues to be discussed and addressed in the society, there is the need that all the forms of media must efficiently disseminate child related information as well as contributing to the protection of the rights of the girl child which are considered to be the future generation shapers and extremely vulnerable part of the population. Therefore, the manner in which the media depict girl child influences the society, in terms of attitude and behaviours towards the girl child in addition to how the girl child might view herself. It will be an issue when the media fails to adequately present stories of girl child, their lives, their rights and protection and yet in the country, there are numerous incidences involving them which can be seen through the terms of girl child marriage, abuse, labour, mortality, neglect, trafficking, prostitution etc.
