IMPROVED CATERING SERVICES AND ITS EFFECT ON BOARDING SECONDARY SCHOOL ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF GOVERNMENT GIRLS SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, SHEKARA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study explores the relationship between improved catering services and the academic performance of students in boarding secondary schools. In many schools, catering services are often overlooked as a factor influencing student outcomes, despite the critical role they play in students’ overall health, well-being, and cognitive function.
The research aims to evaluate how the quality of meals, hygienic practices, and meal scheduling impact the academic performance of students. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was gathered from 30 respondents, including students, teachers, and catering staff, in GCSS Shekara. The findings reveal a strong correlation between the quality of catering services and academic achievement. Students who received balanced and nutritious meals consistently performed better academically compared to those with poor meal quality.
The study emphasizes the importance of investing in high-quality catering services as a strategy for enhancing student learning environments. It also highlights key areas for improvement, including diversifying meal options, enforcing food safety standards, and ensuring timely meal schedules aligned with academic activities.
The research underscores the need for educational institutions and policymakers to prioritize catering services as part of a holistic approach to improving educational outcomes.
