Abstract

This research is concern with Effects of cooperative learning strategy on senior secondary two students interest and Achievement in Geometry in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state Nigeria. The study was conducted to determine the effect of cooperative instructional strategy on students’ achievement and interest in geometry. To guide the investigation, four research questions and four hypotheses were formulated. The quasi – experimental research was used. A sample of 80 SS 2 students were drawn through simple random probability sampling technique in Jos North education zone of Plateau State. Two instruments, the geometry achievements test (GAT) and the geometry interest inventories (GII) were used for data collection. To analyze the data of the study, the research questions were answered using mean, standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested using the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The result showed that students exposed to cooperative instructional strategy for teaching achieved higher in geometry than students in control group. It was revealed that the students in experimental group gained higher interest than those taught with the conventional approach. The male students gain higher than the females in achievement test (GAT). The differences were confirmed to be significant statistically. The findings of this study have serious implication for the students, mathematics teachers, teacher training institutions and other stakeholder in mathematics educat
