Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of the syntactic processes in the Ondo and Idanre speech forms spoken in the Ondo region of Nigeria. Using linguistic data from native speakers, the study examines key syntactic structures such as negative sentence construction, focus construction, and question formation to identify similarities and differences. The analysis reveals that while both speech forms share structural similarities in negation and focus constructions, they differ in morphemes and word order manipulation, particularly in question formation. The study highlights the syntactic diversity of the two dialects and contributes to the understanding of linguistic variation in the region.
