Abstract

This study investigates the compilation and dissertation of undergraduate (B.A) and Masters (M.A) research work in the Department of Linguistics and Languages at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, between 2013 and 2021. The research aims to analyze trends, themes, and methodological approaches adopted in students’ research projects. Data were collected from archived dissertations and theses within the department. A descriptive research design was employed to categorize and evaluate the works based on subject areas, research methods, and linguistic subfields. Findings reveal a concentration of research in sociolinguistics, syntax, and phonology, with qualitative methods being predominantly used. The study highlights gaps in emerging areas such as computational linguistics and discourse analysis. It concludes that while significant contributions have been made, there is a need for diversification in research focus and methodological approaches.
