Abstract

Concrete is the most widely used construction material due to its satisfying performance in strength requirements, durability, fire resistance and its ability to be moulded into a variety of shapes and sizes. This study focused on effect of partial replacement of cement with rice husk ash and palm kernel shell on high performance concrete. Both rice husk (RHA) and palm kernel shell (PKS) areagricultural waste that has potential to replace concrete constituent material. Addition of RHA in concrete as supplements to cement and PKSA as partial replacement of coarse aggregate were investigated at percentage replacement in the increasing rate of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Batching was done by weight using a mixing ratio of 1:0.8:2.4 and water-cement ratio of 0.35. Concrete produced were cured for 7 days, 14 days and 28days. Water absorption test and compressive strength test were conducted to test the strength of the concrete. The water absorption test result shows that the water absorption rate increases as the percentage replacement of RHA and PKS increases.
