Abstract

This study assessed the concentration of heavy metals (Magnesium, Lead, and Zinc) in Moringa samples collected from five Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nasarawa State, Nigeria (Akwanga, Lafia, Awe, Keffi, and Wamba). Samples were analyzed for heavy metal content using standard laboratory techniques, and results were expressed as Mean Standard Error (SE). Findings indicated that Magnesium levels were relatively consistent across locations, ranging from 10.52 mg/L to 11.04 mg/L, with no significant variation. Lead levels varied slightly, with the highest concentration (0.04 mg/L) recorded in Akwanga, Lafia, and Wamba, though these values were within permissible limits. Zinc concentrations ranged from 0.29 mg/L to 0.36 mg/L, showing no significant variation among locations. Overall, the study suggests that heavy metal contamination in Moringa sourced from Nasarawa State is within safe limits. However, continuous monitoring is recommended to ensure food safety and prevent potential bioaccumulation.
