INDOOR AIR QUALITY MONITORING IN A COMMERCIAL BANK IKOT EKPENE L.G A
Abstract
This study assessed the indoor air quality (IAQ) in a commercial bank located in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, by measuring key air pollutants, including carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), formaldehyde (HCHO), total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs), particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10). The results indicated that CO (1.00 ± 0.03 ppm), HCHO (0.009 ± 0.04 mg/m'), TVOCs (0.015 ± 0.01 mg/m), PM2.5 (24.00 ± 3.50 ug/m), and PM10 (31.00 ± 50 ug/m) were within acceptable limits according to WHO and other international standards. However, CO2 levels (1205.5 ± 55.50 ppm) exceeded the recommended threshold of 1000 ppm, indicating insufficient ventilation. While the IAQ generally posed minimal health risks, the elevated CO2 concentration suggests a need for improved ventilation. The study recommends enhancing air circulation, using low-emission materials, installing air purification systems, and ensuring regular monitoring. These measures would help optimize TAQ, mitigate potential health risks, and improve comfort and productivity in the bank's indoor environment.
