DETERMINATION OF TRACE METALS IN FIVE ACRYLIC PAINTS BRANDS SOLD IN UMUAHIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The determination of trace metals in acrylic paints holds paramount significance due to its implications for both human health and environmental preservation. This study presents a comprehensive exploration of the sources, concentrations, and potential risks associated with trace metal content in acrylic paints. A total of five paint brands Crown-coat,Saclux,Stone-tex,Deca-lux and B-lux brands was obtained from a different paints vendor shops in Umuahia Abia State. The heavy metals in paints were analyzed using Atomic absorption spectroscopy as, for Co 6.774±0.959-12.195±0.00F38.251±1.973-64.208±4.933,Ni8.658±0.00-11.544±2.041Cd4.06±0.00-42.017±0.00Mg/Lrespectively.The result was compared with permission limits of WHO, SON and NESREA. This study sheds light on the complex landscape of trace metal content in acrylic paints, addressing its implications for both human health and the environment.By examining the sources, potential contamination pathways, health effects, and environmental repercussions of trace metals in acrylic paints, this research serves as a crucial foundation for implementing safety measures and advancing the responsible use of acrylic paints across artistic, industrial, and commercial applications.
