Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the role of community associations in community development, with particular focus on the Youth Development Association Biu in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. The research aims to assess how community-based organizations contribute to socio-economic development, promote unity, and enhance the overall well-being of members within the community.
A descriptive research design was adopted for the study, and data were collected through questionnaires and interviews administered to members of the association and residents of the community. The findings reveal that the Youth Development Association plays a significant role in mobilizing resources, initiating development projects, promoting education, and fostering social cohesion within the community.
However, the study also identifies several challenges faced by the association, including inadequate funding, lack of government support, and limited participation from some community members. Despite these challenges, the association has made notable contributions to community development in the area.
The study concludes that community associations are vital instruments for grassroots development and recommends increased government support, improved funding mechanisms, and greater community participation to enhance their effectiveness.
