Abstract

The study examined the impact of industrialization on unemployment in Nigeria for the period of 1981-2019. For the study, the dependent variable is unemployment rate (UNEMP) while the explanatory variable industrial index (INDEX) was used as a proxy for industrialization. The researcher used secondary data sourced from CBN statistical bulletin which was estimated and analyzed using ordinary least square method (OLS). The result of the analysis revealed that industrialization does not have a significant impact on unemployment in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended among others that government should ereate a conducive environment to achieve strong performance of the industrial sector through provision of much needed infrastructure which facilitates the process of industrialization that will reduce the unemployment rate in Nigeria.
