Abstract

This research investigates the impact of motivation on students' academic performance in physical chemistry within senior secondary schools in Katsina Metropolis. The study seeks to understand how motivation, in the form of encouragement, support, and positive reinforcement, influences students' learning experiences and academic outcomes in the challenging subject of physical chemistry. Data was collected using quasi experimental method, chemistry achievement test (CAT), to assess the role of motivation in academic achievement. The results indicate a strong correlation between motivation and improved academic performance in physical chemistry. Motivated students exhibit increased engagement, higher levels of interest, and a greater capacity to overcome obstacles in their learning journey. This study underscores the importance of fostering a motivating learning environment to enhance the academic performance of senior secondary school students in physical chemistry within Katsina Metropolis.
