DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN IOT BASED EGG INCUBATOR SYSTEM
Abstract
This project merges IoT technology with smart egg incubator system. The incubator system is a setup to imitate natural hatch processes particularly in the hatch of chicken eggs or chick breeding. Temperature and humidity sensors are the two types of sensors incorporated in the incubator system, the success of which is largely determined by the temperature stability in the hatch machine. These sensors are crucial to take measures and send the data to the processing unit that is accountable to automatically control temperature, humidity and electrical energy on the incubator to keep the environment suitable for egg hatching. An egg turner tray of 36 nos. egg capacity was attached to a programmed DC servo motor to form egg spinning mechanism to spin the egg at angle 45̊ maintaining exactly 6 hours of interval. An experimental method was designed to monitor the temperature and moist level of the system, the DHT11 was used as the temperature and humidity sensor. An LCD displays the status of the incubator humidity level and temperature. Through the implementation of IoT, for remote monitoring, this egg incubator uses a WIFI module to connect to the internet as a communication tool using a specialized software, enabling real time monitoring of the device. This makes the system flexible as it reduces stress of visiting the location of the incubator consecutively. This incubator machine utilizes ESP32 as the microcontroller, which is the main control unit responsible for regulating temperature, humidity and egg rotation. The test results showed that temperature and humidity values can be read on the software application on a smart phone. The monitoring of the performance of this egg incubator becomes easier and more practical as users can receive information of temperature and humidity of the incubator in real time. This is important in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the devices performance.
