ACCOUNTING FOR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) AND ITS IMPACT ON SHAREHOLDER VALUE IN LISTED DEPOSIT BANKS
Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) accounting practices and shareholder value in listed deposit banks. Recognizing the growing importance of CSR in corporate governance, this research aims to explore how effective CSR initiatives influence financial performance and investor perception in the banking sector. Using a mixed-method approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to bank employees and management, complemented by secondary data analysis from financial reports and market performance indicators. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between CSR engagement and shareholder value, highlighting that banks with robust CSR strategies tend to experience enhanced financial performance and investor loyalty. Key factors influencing this relationship include the perceived importance of CSR initiatives, effective communication of CSR activities, and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the study identifies challenges in accurately measuring the impact of CSR on financial metrics due to varying interpretations of CSR practices. This research contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the importance of integrating CSR into the financial and strategic frameworks of listed deposit banks. It underscores the necessity for banks to adopt transparent accounting practices for CSR to enhance shareholder value, foster trust among stakeholders, and align corporate objectives with societal expectations. The study concludes with recommendations for policymakers and banking executives to prioritize CSR as a strategic imperative for sustainable business growth.
