Abstract

This study investigates the effect of guided discovery in practical biology on the academic achievement of secondary school students in Nassarawa Education Zone, Kano State. The research examines whether the guided discovery method enhances students' understanding and performance in practical biology compared to traditional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, alongside questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students. The findings suggest that students taught using the guided discovery method performed significantly better than those who were taught using traditional methods. The study concludes that guided discovery is an effective teaching method for improving students' academic achievement in practical biology and recommends its wider adoption in schools.
