Abstract

This study investigates the effects of divorce on men in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. Recognizing the rising divorce rate and its sociocultural implications, the research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from 98 divorced men and qualitative insights from a Hisbah official and a community leader. The study explores key factors leading to divorce such as economic hardship, family interference, and lack of communication and examines the emotional, psychological, social, and financial consequences for men post-divorce. Findings reveal that divorced men often face emotional trauma, social stigma, and financial instability, exacerbated by traditional gender roles and societal expectations. The study recommends targeted interventions, including counseling services, community sensitization, and policy reforms to support divorced men and promote social wellbeing.
