BACTERIOLOGICAL AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF SOY BEAN MILK SOLD AROUND JA'EN (GWALE LG)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the bacteriological and physicochemical quality of soy bean milk sold around Ja’en, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State. Soy bean milk is widely consumed due to its nutritional value and affordability; however, poor hygienic practices during processing, handling, and storage may pose health risks to consumers. Samples were collected from selected vendors within the study area and analyzed using standard microbiological and physicochemical methods to determine bacterial load and quality parameters such as pH and temperature. The results revealed varying levels of bacterial contamination and differences in physicochemical properties among the samples, indicating possible contamination from handling and environmental sources. These findings highlight the need for improved sanitary practices and regular monitoring by relevant health authorities to ensure the safety and quality of soy bean milk sold to the public.
