Abstract

The rapid advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has transformed service delivery in various sectors; however, most Nigerian police stations still rely on manual, paper-based methods of crime reporting and record management. These traditional processes are often cumbersome, time-consuming, and prone to loss of information, delays, and inefficiencies in handling cases. This project, Design and Implementation of a Computerized Crime Reporting System: A Case Study of Ombi 1 Police Station, Lafia, focuses on developing a digital platform that automates the reporting, tracking, and management of crime-related data for enhanced policing and improved service delivery. The system was designed using the Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) and implemented with PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL as the back-end database. Its core features include citizen registration, online crime reporting, case tracking, secure log-in for both police officers and administrators, and a centralized dashboard for monitoring and decision-making. By addressing the shortcomings of manual processes, the system enhances efficiency in case handling, improves accuracy of crime data, ensures transparency, and facilitates faster response to incidents. Beyond solving the immediate challenges faced by Ombi 1 Police Station, this project presents a scalable model for the digitalization of policing activities in Nigeria, thereby strengthening accountability, public trust, and effective law enforcement.
