IMPLICATION OF CULTISM IN NIGERIAN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING {CASE STUDY OF EBONYI STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IKWO}
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research work examined the implications of cultism in Nigeria institutions of Higher Learning with special reference to Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo. Thus, in many tertiary institutions, especially the government ones, it has been found that cultism actually exist and students tend to enter into it based on ignorance and friends influence out of will and because of these, the implications become inimical to the achievement of Educational objectives and National Development. Observations have shown that while some students enter into cultism because of power and fear of domination, others (majority) do not, as they have vowed to maintain what they have come to the institution to do i.e. achieving sound and quality education. A closer look, at some of these tertiary institutions shows that, school management do little or nothing about the eradication of cultism and hence, groom examination malpractices and social disorder. However, in the course of this study, both primary and secondary data were used. Questionnaires were administered to elicit information on the subject matter. Data collections were analyzed with tables and simple percentages.
