EVALUATION OF RECORD MANAGEMENT PRACTICE AT THE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS) OFFICE OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the record management practices at the Management Information System (MIS) Office of the Federal Polytechnic Offa. Effective record management is essential for institutional efficiency, accountability, and decision-making. The study aims to examine the methods of record creation, storage, retrieval, and disposal within the MIS unit, as well as identify challenges affecting proper records management.
A descriptive research design was adopted, and data were collected through questionnaires and interviews administered to staff of the MIS office. Findings revealed that while digital record systems are partially implemented, there are still challenges such as inadequate storage facilities, lack of proper training, inconsistent record classification, and occasional data loss.
The study concludes that although efforts have been made to modernize record management practices, significant improvements are required to ensure efficiency and reliability. Recommendations include the adoption of a fully integrated electronic records management system, staff training, and implementation of clear policies for records handling.
