Abstract

The research study has undertaken to assess the impact of human activities and physicochemical parameters in the surface water of Ibagwa and Ekpene Ukpa Rivers in Akwa Ibom State. In the study samples were collected from the two rivers and the physicochemical parameters, such as temperature, pH, DO, salinity, electrical conductivity (EC) and total dissolved solid (TDS) were measured in-situ using Hanna HI 9828 instrument, Nitrate (N0-3), phosphate (PO32-) and sulphate (SO42-) were determined using standard methods and procedures. These were later analyzed using UV/VIS spectrophotometer (Model-Jenway 6705). A comparison of the measured parameters with the national and international standard set by FEPA (1991) AND WHO (2011) showed that some were within and some were above permissible limits for human safety and development of aquatic life.
