Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of a GPS-GSM car location tracking system using Arduino to enhance vehicle security and enable real-time monitoring. The increasing rate of vehicle theft and the limitations of existing tracking systems—such as high subscription costs, dependence on internet connectivity, limited customization, and data privacy concerns—necessitate the development of a more affordable, flexible, and reliable tracking solution. The system integrates Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technologies within an embedded Arduino-based platform to provide accurate vehicle location information. The GPS module is responsible for acquiring geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude), while the GSM module transmits this information to the user’s mobile device via Short Message Service (SMS). This approach ensures that vehicle tracking can be achieved even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity. The methodology adopted in this study involves the design, development, testing, and implementation of a prototype system using Arduino Uno, GPS (Neo-6M) module, and GSM (SIM800/SIM900) module. The system was evaluated based on reliability, accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use. Results from the implementation demonstrate that the proposed system successfully provides real-time vehicle location updates and offers a low-cost alternative to commercial tracking systems. In conclusion, the developed GPS-GSM vehicle tracking system provides a practical and efficient solution for vehicle monitoring and security. It reduces operational costs, enhances user control, and improves accessibility to location information. The system is suitable for applications in vehicle security, fleet management, and personal asset tracking. Future improvements may include integrating internet-based communication, mobile applications, and advanced data storage features to enhance system performance and scalability.
