EFFECT OF URBANIZATION O N COMMUNITY LIFE IN BOSSO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA O F NIGER STATE.
Abstract
This study investigates the effect of urbanization on community life in Bosso Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, Nigeria. Urbanization, characterized by population growth and infrastructural development, has significantly transformed social structures, cultural practices, and living conditions within the area. Using a cross-sectional research design, data were collected from 152 respondents through structured questionnaires and analyzed using statistical tools.
The findings reveal that urbanization has improved social interaction, access to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and transportation. However, it has also contributed to challenges such as social isolation, environmental degradation, inadequate infrastructure, and the erosion of cultural traditions. While a majority of respondents acknowledged improved connectivity and opportunities, concerns were raised about declining community cohesion and insufficient government intervention in managing urban growth.
The study concludes that urbanization presents both positive and negative implications for community life in Bosso LGA. It emphasizes the need for sustainable urban planning, cultural preservation initiatives, and inclusive policies to enhance social cohesion and improve overall quality of life. Recommendations include strengthening community engagement, promoting cultural heritage, and ensuring participatory urban development strategies.
