DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRONIC EXAMINATION MODERATION
Abstract
Examination moderation plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity, fairness, and quality of academic assessments. Traditional manual moderation methods are often characterized by challenges such as high costs, time wastage, security risks, and logistical constraints. This study focuses on the design and implementation of an Electronic Examination Moderation System (EEMS) aimed at addressing these challenges. The system was developed for the Department of Computer Science, Federal Polytechnic Ede, and leverages web-based technologies to facilitate secure and efficient moderation processes. A review of existing literature highlights various moderation techniques, including traditional and digital approaches. The study adopts a structured methodology involving data collection through interviews, analysis of related works, and system development using PHP, MySQL, and Macromedia Dreamweaver. The proposed system enables online submission, review, and approval of examination questions, reducing reliance on physical meetings and paper-based documentation. The implementation of the EEMS significantly enhances efficiency by eliminating transportation risks, reducing moderation time, lowering costs, and improving the security of examination materials. Furthermore, the system facilitates easy access to moderated past questions, ensuring standardization and continuous improvement in question quality. Future enhancements could integrate AI-driven moderation and blockchain technology to further strengthen security and transparency. This research contributes to the advancement of digital examination moderation, providing a scalable and adaptable solution for higher education institutions.
