ABSTRACT
This study explore base on the impacted knowledge of case study and conceptual philosophy
of Walter Gropius “Gesamstkunwerk” which makes me focused on the Adaptation of Cultural
Heritage as my subtopic implies, the adaptation of cultural heritage in the building of the Fine
Art Department at Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. The building, is designed to reflect the
cultural heritage of the Hausa people, incorporates traditional architectural elements, such as
arches, domes, and pinnacles, with modern sustainable building practices. The adaptation of
cultural heritage in the building design promotes cultural preservation, sustainability, and
community engagement. This research examines the building design and construction
processes, highlighting the challenges of incorporating cultural heritage in institutional
building design. The study reveals that the Fine Art Department building serves as a symbol of
cultural identity, sustainability, and community pride, demonstrating the conceptual synergy
and idea of using calabash, faifai and ludayi as content of fine art, potential for cultural
heritage to inform and enrich contemporary building design.
