Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between Chemistry students’ performance in qualifying examinations and their results in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in secondary schools in Gwale Local Government Area, Kano State. A correlational research design was adopted. Data were collected from students’ academic records across selected schools. Statistical analysis, including correlation coefficients, was used to determine the strength of the relationship. Findings revealed a significant positive relationship between performance in qualifying examinations and WASSCE results. This indicates that students who perform well in qualifying exams are more likely to achieve better results in WASSCE. The study concludes that qualifying examinations are reliable predictors of students’ academic performance and recommends strengthening internal assessment systems.
