Abstract

ABSTRACT The study assessed the role of Okin FM radio in the campaign against communicable diseases among the residents of Erin-Ile. Communicable diseases pose great challenges to Nigeria and managing them is best with preventive measures since all communicable diseases are preventable. This requires massive awareness creation, education and persuasion. Radio programme of campaign against Communicable disease possess appreciable abilities to create awareness, educate and persuade. When combined, they would ordinarily produce great results in making the public imbibe necessary health attitudes and practices to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. This project critically assesses radio programme on campaign against Communicable disease and communicable diseases management agencies. Radio programme effectiveness is appreciated but it is constrained by high cost, poor electricity supply, delayed feedback and poor funding of communicable diseases management agencies. This paper calls for stakeholders in health, broadcasting and advertising to work out incentives for broadcast advertising of problems of communicable disease, closer co-operation for broadcast advertising of problems of communicable diseases and overhaul of electricity supply situation in Nigeria. Key words: Assessment, Communicable Disease, Okin FM, Erin Ile, Campaign.
