Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines a masquerade root extract's phytochemical makeup and antibacterial activity against Gardnerella vaginalis, a major bacterial vaginosis pathogen. Qualitative phytochemical screening of the root extract identified the presence of substances called alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. It is well known that these bioactive components have antibacterial properties. Using the agar well diffusion method, the extract's efficacy was assessed and it showed a strong inhibitory impact on G. vaginalis. By determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), a strong antibacterial threshold was established. The root extract's potential as a natural treatment for bacterial vaginosis is highlighted by this study, which also encourages more research into its safety profile and mode of action. The results support the growing body of research that suggests using plant-based therapies instead of traditional antibiotics to treat illnesses.
