SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF BIMETALLIC ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS (MOFS)
Abstract
Abstract
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics, affecting both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, remains a major challenge. In this research, FeZn-MOF was synthesized using the room temperature method and antibacterial tests were carried out. The solids formed were then characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM and EDX. The results of analysis using FTIR show that the MOF show the functional groups (νO-H), (ν–OCO-sym), (ν–OCO-asym), (νC-H), (νC=C) and (νFeZn-O). The results of XRD analysis show that the characteristic peak of FeZn-MOF is at 2θ 6.8°; 9.6°; 13.72°; 15.44°; 20.6°. Meanwhile, SEM results show that FeZn-MOF has a cubic surface structure. The results of the antibacterial test for Staphylococcus aureus showed that FeZn-MOF (23 mm) had a largest zone of inhibition. More research should be carried out to determine their suitability as antibiotic drug i.e to determine their toxicity concentrations.
