A 30-MINUTES RADIO DOCUMENTARY ON THE IMPORTANCE OF ADVERTISEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MASS MEDIA
Abstract
Advertising is as old as mankind, and the desire to advertise seems to be the urge of every man. Men and women are born with the desire to let others know what they have to sell or give in order to obtain some personal gain.
Therefore advertising is innate. Advertising has been around for almost 2500 years. In biblical history, we can safely say that the first advertising began when the serpent advertised the qualities of the forbidden fruit to Eve and she subsequently advertised the fruit to her husband, Adam. It appears that advertising has been with man for many years, although the strategies of advertising always been different from culture to culture.
After the invention of the paper and the Gutenberg's printing press, during the era of industrialization, advertising started to develop and it became more popular. People no longer had to rely on their memories, and they had posters, handbills, and signs to remember them about certain product or service. Industrial age was a period from the end of the World War I, until the 1970s. The importance of this period in the history lays in the fact that products were branded and the promotion was greatly emphasized. Some of The products that were extremely popular were Coca-Cola, Jell-O, Kellogg's Corn Flakes, and Campbell's soup.
