ASSESSING THE APPLICABILITY OF EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS) PRODUCTS IN CONTEMPORARY BUILDING CONSTRUCTIONS IN KANO STATE
Abstract
Modern day construction in Nigeria has been dominated with the conventional method of construction which mostly fails in delivery of projects on time and budget with the right specification. EPS products have been experimented to have emphasize on project delivery with cost and time saving, waste minimization and lots more. A quantitative research approach was employed to conduct, collect and analyse data in this study. Due to the scope of the research, a questionnaire survey was used to collect information from major stakeholders in the construction industry; these stakeholders are project managers, architects, builders, engineers, quantity surveyors and end users. Consequently, simple interpretations of data were used to analyse and present the results obtained. The findings from this study revealed that majority of construction organisations in Nigeria employ the conventional method of construction that provides the lowest chance for integration of construction knowledge, experience and resources into design, construction and engineering processes. However, recommendation was made to adopt the EPS construction system due to its potential in terms of applicability, so as to ensure the successful implementation of constructions.
