Abstract

Abstract Parking is the end product of a journey or trip, irrespective of the trip purpose. On-street parking at Ibrahim Taiwo Road along Kanti Kwari Market, Kano State is unrestricted and controls as a result it contributed to reduction of carriage way capacity and cause traffic congestion. An on-street parking inventory was conducted aimed at determining the impact of the practice to the free flow of traffic. The survey was conducted in two phases that is before and after salary payment to determine the impact of the problem and to eliminate the effect of On-street parking at Ibrahim Taiwo Road, and also to assess the risks of observing and countering the problems caused by the parking. The outcome of the survey revealed that the parking accumulation is more after salary payment but none reaches the parking index and the carriage way capacity reduces by 50% when cars parked at opposing side of the road. It is therefore recommended that an off-street parking facility should be built by the state government, private or non-governmental organizations
