Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examined the impact of teaching approach on the academic achievement of some selected secondary schools in Albasu Local Government Area, Kano State. The objectives of the study were to identify the different teaching approaches used by teachers, examine their effects on students’ academic performance, and determine the most effective approaches in improving learning outcomes. The study adopted a survey research design. A sample of teachers and students was selectedfromfour secondary schools in AlbasuLGA using simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that teaching approaches such as learner-centered methods, discussion methods, and activity-based learning significantly improved students’ academic achievement, while traditional teacher-centered methods showed less impact. The study concluded that teaching approaches play a vital role in determining students’ performance. It was therefore recommended that teachers should adopt more interactive and student-centered methods to enhance learning outcomes, while government and school authorities should organize regular training and workshopsfor teachers to improve their teaching strategies.
