Abstract

This research explores the historical trajectory of the Osun-Osogbo Festival from 1991 to 2020, focusing on the indispensable roles of women. While the festival is a globally recognized cultural event, much of the existing literature overlooks the specific historical contributions of women in the modern era. This study utilizes both primary oral traditions and secondary scholarly sources to analyze how women—as spiritual leaders, ritual performers, and cultural preservationists—have shaped the festival's growth into a UNESCO World Heritage site.
