THE IMPACT OF MAKETING INFORMATION SYSTEMS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SMALL SCALE BUSINESS IN BIRNIN KEBBI
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Plants are important for human existence and they are the major sources of foods and medicine. Plant-based foods are important components of traditional diets in many parts of developing countries. For instance, plant-based foods are very good sources of protein, fibers, minerals and vitamins, and consumption of these vegetables/fruit can help to prevent diabetes, cancers and heart disease like stroke, high blood pressure and accumulation of cholesterol. This research aimed to evaluate the proximate composition and anti-nutritional composition of doum palm fruit. The proximate composition (%) of doum palm fruit was determined using standard methods of AOAC (2005). The Antinutritional composition (phytate, Oxalate, Cyanide and Tannin) were also determined using standard methods. The proximate composition of Hyphaene thebaica fruit revealed carbohydrate (43.58±1.54), crude Protein (5.89±7.64), crude Lipid (16.67±29.30), Ash content (33.34±2.89) crude Fiber (101.67±2.89) and Moisture content (60.32±27.95). The anti-nutritional composition of Hyphaene thebaica fruit were Tannins (20.37±0.71). phytate (2.49±0.24) Cyanide (2.49±0.24) and oxalate (0.08±0.01). In conclusion, the fruit of Hyphaene thebaica has a high content of crude fiber and moisture, moderate carbohydrate and ash content, but relatively low crude protein. Anti-nutritional factors like phytate, cyanide, and tannins are present in moderate amounts, with oxalate being the lowest. The analysis provides valuable insights into the nutritional and anti-nutritional profile of the fruit, which could influence its use in human or animal diets, especially regarding its fiber and tannin content.
