Abstract

ABSTRACT The Arabic language holds significant cultural, religious, and academic importance in Nigeria, particularly in Kano Municipal, where it is widely studied. However, many secondary school students face challenges in attaining proficiency due to inadequate instructional methods and limited exposure to practical language applications. This study examines the impact of language laboratories in enhancing Arabic language proficiency among secondary school students in Kano Municipal. Utilizing a quantitative method approach, data were collected through surveys, interviews, and direct observations from selected secondary schools with and without language labs. The findings reveal that students with access to well-equipped language laboratories demonstrate higher listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills compared to those without. The study highlights that interactive learning tools, such as audio-visual aids, pronunciation drills, and conversational practice, significantly improve students‟ comprehension and retention. Furthermore, teachers in schools with functional language labs report increased engagement and improved pedagogical strategies. The research underscores the necessity of integrating language labs into Arabic language instruction to bridge proficiency gaps and enhance students‟ linguistic capabilities. The study recommends that government and educational stakeholders invest in language lab facilities, provide adequate training for teachers, and incorporate modern technological tools to maximize student learning outcomes.
