COMPARISM OF ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION OF JUICE AND SEED OF MORINDA CITRIFOLIA (NONI) FRUIT
Abstract
The comparative analysis to of elemental composition of Noni (Morinda citrifolia) seeds and juice was carried out using Standard analytical procedures. The results of this study shows that Noni seeds contained 60.707 ± 0.009 mg sodium, 31.017 ± 0.015 mg calcium, 78.054 ± 0.076 mg magnesium, 107.353 ± 0.095 mg phosphorus, and 116.641 ± 0.213 mg potassium. Noni juice had 37.406 ± 0.008 mg sodium, 33.552 ± 0.016 mg calcium, 54.389 ± 0.001mg magnesium, 76.074 ± 0.069 mg phosphorus, and 68.246 ± 0.024 mg potassium. Compared to the WHO Recommended Dietary Intakes (RDI), Noni seeds contributed significantly to magnesium and phosphorus, while the juice provided moderate amounts of calcium and potassium. These findings suggest that Noni seeds are a valuable source of essential minerals, particularly magnesium and phosphorus, and could be used to address micronutrient deficiencies, making them a potential dietary supplement.
