INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF TEACHERS' STUDENTS’ RELATIONSHIP ON STUDENT MOTIVATION AND ACHIEVEMENT IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL OF KUMBOTSO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KANO STATE.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the influence of teacher-student relationships on student motivation and academic achievement in senior secondary schools within Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State. The research aims to examine the nature of teacher-student relationships, their impact on academic performance, and the factors that hinder effective interactions. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from students across various senior secondary schools in the area. The findings reveal that students generally perceive their relationships with teachers as positive and respectful, contributing significantly to increased motivation, self-esteem, confidence, and classroom engagement. Emotional support from teachers was also found to foster a secure learning environment, enhance intrinsic motivation, and improve classroom behavior and academic outcomes. However, the study also identifies key barriers to healthy teacher-student relationships, including miscommunication, cultural differences, teacher workload, and student misconduct. These results underscore the importance of fostering supportive teacher-student interactions as a strategy for enhancing student motivation and academic success. Recommendations are made for educational stakeholders to address these barriers and promote stronger relationships in the classroom. -
