THE EFFECT OF INSECURITY ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN BORNO STATE.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of insecurity on socio-economic development in Borno State. Based on the data analyzed, the following findings were made, The major cause of insecurity in Borno State is Boko Haram insurgency, followed by poverty, unemployment, and poor governance. Insecurity has led to destruction of infrastructure, loss of lives, decline in business and agricultural activities, and displacement of residents. Efforts by government and security agencies, including military operations and empowerment programs, have achieved partial success but have not completely eradicated insecurity. Sustainable peace and development require multi-dimensional approaches, including community engagement and socio-economic empowerment. The study concludes that insecurity poses a significant threat to socio-economic development in Borno State. The prolonged insurgency has crippled major sectors of the economy and disrupted education, healthcare, and trade. For development to be realized, peace and security must be prioritized as the foundation of growth and social stability.
