Abstract

Solar-powered water pumping systems have emerged as a viable alternative to conventional diesel and electric pumps, particularly for rural and remote applications. This literature review examines the current state of research on 0.75 horsepower (HP) solar water pumps, focusing on their technical performance, optimization strategies, economic viability, and applications. The review synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed articles, technical reports, and industry studies published between 2013 and 2025, highlighting key developments in photovoltaic water pumping system (PVWPS) technology specifically relevant to 0.75HP systems, since the power supply has become expensive, failure on nation grid on daily basis, plateau state polytechnic Barkin-ladi pushed for alternative source of providing hygiene water for human as well other needs. This project provides practical solution to unreliable electricity and to serve as a functional model for renewable energy education. Using 0.75Hp enable pumping within long range compare to 1Hp, 1.5Hp etc and all the pump accessories works efficiency. For the safety of the solar powered pump system, there is need for visual inspection monitoring the water output and quality, there is also need to check electrical connections, monitor water level performance, pump performance and clean solar panels if dusty or soiled.
