HEAVY METAL CONCENTRATION IN WATER, SEDIMENT AND TILAPIA SPECIES OF UDO ANWANKWO RIVER, IKOT EKPENE
Abstract
The heavy metal concentration in water, sediment and tilapia species of Udo Anwankwo river, Ikot Ekpene was investigated using standard biological and analytical procedures. The result revealed that the concentration of Pb was higher in sediment recording (4.113+0.003 mg/100g), followed by water (1.670+0.004 mg/l) and the least was Tilapia species (0.933+0.002 mg/100g). Cd concentration was higher in sediment (1.684+0.002 mg/100g), followed by water (0.596+0.002 mg/l) and the least was Tilapia species (0.391+0.003 mg/100g). The concentration of Ni showed that sediment had highest concentration (2.356+0.003 mg/100g), followed by water sample (1.443+0.004 mg/l) while Tilapia species had the least concentration (1.079+0.002 mg/100g). Cr recorded highest concentration in the sediment sample (3.197+0.005 mg/100g), followed by water sample (0.688+0.003 mg/l) and Tilapia species had the least (
