Abstract

This project presents the design and construction of electric vehicle using locally sourced materials, aimed at addressing global growing transportation challenges. The vehicle employs This project presents the design and construction of electric vehicle using locally sourced materials, aimed at addressing global growing transportation challenges. The vehicle employs a 48V 800W brushless DC motor for propulsion, tricycle rims and tyres for load capacity, and a heavy-load motorcycle suspension system for ruggedness on roads. The objective of the work was to demonstrate the feasibility of developing a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and durable electric vehicle using locally available components. The methodology involved chassis design and welding, motor selection, suspension, and wheel system and selection of an appropriate battery pack. The construction will be able to achieve a top speed of approximately 20 km/h and a range of 40 to 60 km per charge with a load capacity of 200 kg. The results show that electric vehicles can be practically developed within Nigeria when tailored to local conditions. The study concludes that locally fabricated EVs can reduce transportation costs, minimize environmental pollution, and promote sustainable mobility especially in Nigeria
