Abstract

Abstract The increasing dependence on computer networks for communication and data sharing has raised concerns about network security, privacy, and unauthorized access. Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology provides a secure means of transmitting data across public networks by creating encrypted communication channels between users and organizations. This project focuses on the development of a Virtual Private Network for secure network communication using Cisco Packet Tracer. The study aimed to design and simulate a secure network environment that allows remote users to access organizational resources safely through VPN implementation. The methodology involved network design, configuration of routers, switches, and end devices, as well as the setup of VPN protocols within the simulation environment. Security measures such as authentication and encryption were incorporated to ensure confidentiality and integrity of transmitted data. The system was tested in Cisco Packet Tracer to evaluate connectivity, data security, and performance. Results showed that the developed VPN successfully established secure communication between remote networks while preventing unauthorized access. The project demonstrates that VPN technology can significantly improve network security and reduce risks associated with data transmission over insecure networks. In conclusion, the development of a VPN using Cisco Packet Tracer provides an effective and cost-efficient approach to securing organizational networks and can serve as a practical solution for businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies.
