DEVELOPMENT OF A POWER GENERATOR USING WASTE OIL AS FUEL FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Poor access to electricity has been a major talking point in Nigeria. This is further amplified by the epileptic power supply which can not meet the electricity demands of households in Nigeria. It is therefore necessary to come up with innovations that are cheap, readily available and reliable to address this issue. Waste oil for electricity has been researched upon as one of the avenues to provide stable electricity whilst riding the environment of toxic substance. Though the benefits of this method are high, little research has been made in this direction.
A power generator which uses waste oil as fuel was developed and fabricated in this study. The generator operates by converting heat generated from the combustion of the waste oil into electricity (this is done with the help of a thermoelectric generator) and then the generated electricity is converted and amplified by a watt inverter. The power generator was tested using home appliances and results obtained showed that an increase in load leads to an in increase in consumption of water oil by the generator.
