Abstract

This project presents the design, construction, and testing of a 1kW portable solar power system capable of providing reliable electricity for small-scale household, office, and field applications. The study is motivated by the challenges of unstable grid supply and the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions in Nigeria and beyond. The system consists of a photovoltaic array, charge controller, deep-cycle battery storage, and a pure sine wave inverter, all integrated into a portable framework for ease of transport and installation. Using solar irradiation data, load analysis, and system sizing calculations, the system was designed to provide continuous power for appliances such as lighting, fans, laptops, and communication devices. Experimental results show that the system achieved an average efficiency of 85%, with stable voltage output and satisfactory load performance. The findings highlight the viability of solar energy as a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil-fuel generators, particularly in remote and off-grid areas.
