DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ROLE BASED ACCESS CONTROL (RBAC) IN DEPARTMENTAL CLOUD STORAGE SYSTEM
Abstract
This research presents the design, development, and evaluation of a departmental cloud storage system integrated with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for the Department of Computer Science, School of Technology, Kano State Polytechnic. The study addresses the growing challenges of unauthorized access, poor data organization, and inefficient access management commonly experienced in academic cloud storage environments where multiple users with different responsibilities share digital resources. The system was developed as a web-based application using PHP for server-side processing, MySQL for database management, and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend interface. The architecture follows a three-tier model comprising the presentation layer, application layer, and data layer, ensuring modularity, scalability, and ease of maintenance. Security mechanisms such as hashed password authentication, session management, and role-based authorization were implemented to safeguard sensitive departmental data.
