IMPROVEMENT OF FRIED GROUNDNUT SKIN PEELING MACHINE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The aim of this project work is to improve the groundnut skin peeling machine. The groundnut skin peeling machine is made up of the following components: a feeder, chute, electric motor, peeling chamber, suction fan, sorting chamber, belt, bearing, shaft, pulleys and collector. All these components made up of the machine. Welding operation was carried out to weld some of these components together. Electric arc welding operation was used to frame up the machine and welding of the components. Then after, filler was applied to obtain a good and smooth surface finish before the application of paint. Then after, filler was applied to obtain a good and smooth surface finish and the paint was applied to achieve the aim. The machine was tested used fried groundnut seed to ascertain the effectiveness and the peeling efficiency. The machine grinded and stored the seeds due to improper design and configuration of the peeling chamber. The peeling shaft and the chamber were re-designed and re-configured to ensure effective and efficient peeling. 2kg of fried groundnut seed was used to carryout performance evaluation and also1.5kg of the groundnut seed were peeled completely, representing 75% peeling efficiency.
