ADSORPTION OF SAFRANIN DYE USING GROUNDNUT COB AS ADSORBENT
Abstract
Textile and industrial wastewater contains harmaful dyes that remains a significant environmental challenge worldwide due to it's harmful effect on water quality, the economy, human health and aquatic ecosystems. To address the efficient removal of dye, various absorbent can be used. This study utilized groundnut cob which are abundantly available and inexpensive, readily for the uptake of safranin dye.Batch Adsorption Experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time and temperature. The result shows that adsorption efficiency increased with adsorbent dosage, temperature and time while decrease with increase in initial dye concentration (20mg/L to 100mg/L). The morphological characteristics of the adsorbent were evaluated using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) before and after adsorption process and to confirm the adsorption of dye on adsorbent surface. The findings suggest that groundnut cob is a promising absorbent for removal of safranin dye from wastewater, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for dye pollution mitigation.
