Abstract

ABSTRACT This study assessed the impact of Management Information Systems (MIS) on the performance of office managers in business organizations in Kwara State, Nigeria. The research was guided by four specific objectives examining decision-making, administrative efficiency, task planning and control, and challenges in utilization. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and the entire population of 100 office managers from selected banks was studied using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. The findings revealed that MIS has a significant positive impact on office managers' performance. Specifically, MIS was found to greatly enhance decision-making (Grand Mean=3.36), improve administrative efficiency (Grand Mean=3.25), and provide robust support for task planning and control (Grand Mean=3.68). Contrary to common literature, respondents reported minimal challenges in using MIS (Grand Mean=3.52), indicating successful adoption. A key discovery was the presence of statistically significant gender differences; female managers perceived a greater positive impact on decision-making and efficiency, while male managers reported higher utilization rates. The study concludes that MIS is an indispensable tool for enhancing managerial performance. It recommends continuous, tailored training programs, initiatives to address the identified gender disparities in technology use, and strategic investment in advanced MIS features to further leverage its benefits for organizational success.
